Weal or Woe is a private roleplay cooperative that follows the stories of a group of noble houses in the city-state of Final Fantasy XIV's Ishgard. Our official membership is small and carefully curated for both social and roleplay compatibility. Invitations to join it are offered when it's decided that a good fit has made itself apparent through natural interaction over time and are thus only offered occasionally. That said, we also host recurring open-world roleplay social gatherings and special occasion events that we welcome others who roleplay within our guidelines to join us for!

Because our stories involve some of the same complex and mature themes that exist in the Final Fantasy XIV universe, we are a rated MA group and don't accept characters or players under the age of 21. Out of character consent and content warnings are still required for unplotted conflict and mature themes as a courtesy to each other.

lore & power
"Lore-plausible" is the term we use to describe our level of lore adherence. We only bend the lore in cases where there is nothing definitive to fill in a blank space and we only do so with what makes the most sense and is most likely. Our characters are low to medium powered at best; average denizens of the Source who may be possessed of some gifts but are nowhere near the canonical Warrior of Light in ability or renown. Characters who are of non-playable races, from other stars or realities aren't a good fit for us.
roleplay etiquette
Our writing styles include third person point of view, present tense, past tense, and use of "quotation marks" to denote speech.
Metagaming is a bummer for everyone.
Do not make assumptions of players of characters whose temperaments, beliefs, or actions you don't approve of out of character.
Please raise your /roleplaying tag and write a brief entrance into the scene if you'd like to join us for an in game gathering or event.
When in doubt, communicate out of character.

We reserve the right to manage our stories and our spaces with our preferences, boundaries, and creative vision in mind. This may sometimes mean excluding grossly incompatible, needlessly confrontational, and otherwise disruptive players and characters. Issues contributing to the consideration of a player as being disruptive may be historical or current. There will be no discourse on the matter.
timeline
We write in the time bubble as intended by the writers of Final Fantasy XIV's story. That places our stories in the immediate aftermath of the end of the Dragonsong War. The Gates of Judgment are newly open, the restoration of the Firmament has brought in foreign trade and artisans, and both the Orthodox Church and Ishgard's government are in the midst of an unquiet reformation. Other worldwide events through the current Dawntrail patch's story will often only be background news.

aesthetics
As a group, we aim for character aesthetics that are aligned with Final Fantasy XIV's character, fashion, and regional design of Ishgard and Coerthas. Please don't bring characters whose aesthetics are dramatic, hypersexualized, or glaringly off theme to our gatherings or events.
